Advancement
Rank advancement and recognition is an important part of our troop’s scouting program. Troop 5 believes that the advancement program is an important tool in the growth of the boys and helps to keep them interested and challenged. We seek to teach scoutcrafts by affirmation and encouragement. We also subscribe to the Woodbadge principal that scoutcraft and camping are “the hooks” that give us the forum to teach leadership skills, rather than scoutcraft and camping being ends to themselves.

Our first year scouts are given plenty of opportunities to advance through First Class during their first year in the program. We also encourage them to take on various leadership roles within the troop or to serve as den chiefs in one of the Brentwood area Cub Scout packs. Older scouts are given opportunities to attend leadership training, participate in the Order of the Arrow, and serve in the higher positions of troop leadership. Our troop functions utilizing the “Patrol Method” which we believe is the best time-tested method of training young men. Ultimately, we hope each scout will earn the rank of Eagle Scout during his scouting career at Troop 5, but we believe that every boy which passes through our program will leave having grown and benefited from the experience.
