History

This is a brief history of Troop 5.

Troop 5 was founded in 1991 at Brentwood Baptist Church by Jerry Franklin, MD, an Eagle Scout, and Barry Walker, also an Eagle Scout, the first BSA Troop 5 scoutmaster. Subsequent scoutmasters have been Phil Elam, Jerry Franklin, Jack Seaman, and currently serving is Paul Furtick. All scoutmasters were "Woodbadge” trained, which is the so-called "PhD of scout leader training." Darek Baker, who has served our troop for years as an Assistant Scoutmaster and advancement chairman is our current Troop Committee Chairman. The troop currently has an active group of over 5 Assistant scoutmasters and tremendous support and involvement from the parents and Troop Committee. Since 2000 our sponsoring organization has been New Hope Community Church on Wilson Pike in Brentwood. We meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.
